Power generation falls 3.4% year-on-year in September

According to a recent report published by India Ratings and Research (Ind-Ra), electricity generation in India declined 3.4% year-on-year due to a 10% fall in thermal power generation.

All India energy demand decreased by 1.5% and supply decreased by 1.4%. Consequently, the energy deficit is down from 0.7% in September 2018 to 0.6% in September 2019.

Transmission line addition has also declined year-on-year with 5,303 circuit kms added in FY19 as compared to 9,932 circuit kms added in FY18.


UP Govt. plans to install prepaid electricity meters starting November 15

The Uttar Pradesh government is planning to install prepaid smart electricity meters starting November 15, according to the state Energy Minister, Shrikant Sharma.

The installation of these meters would begin with the residence of officials, elected representatives and ministers.

These prepaid smart meters are believed to aid in cutting down electricity bill defaults.
