Peak power demand back to normal level

Peak power demand in the country touched 174.33GW on Wednesday, the 9th of September 2020, surpassing the highest level of 173.15GW touched in September of last year. Peak power demand is the highest energy supply during the day across the country.

Lockdown relaxations across the country have resulted in higher economic activity leading to electricity demand picking up. However, power consumption is still expected to be decrease YoY.


Electricity consumer rights rules to be notified soon

The government has proposed to notify rules to ensure minimum service standards to electricity consumers. The draft electricity (Rights of Consumers) Rules, 2020 seeks to specify time limits for new electricity connections and address common grievances.

Consumers would be entitled to get rebates on power bills not issued in time and compensation from DISCOMs in case grievances aren’t addressed timely.
