India to see the largest increase in demand over the next 20 years: IEA

India is set to see the largest increase in power demand amongst any country in the world over the next 20 years, according to a report published by the International Energy Agency (IEA). It added that a growing economy and an increasing urban population will drive the demand.

“India has made remarkable progress in recent years, bringing electricity connections to hundreds of millions of people and impressively scaling up the use of renewable energy, particularly solar,” said Dr. Fatih Birol, executive director, IEA.

Maharashtra sees a 53% increase in power use since May

Maharashtra has seen a 53% increase in electricity consumption since the initial months of the COVID lockdown with demand touching 23GW in February.

The demand for power had fallen as low as 15GW in April and May of 2020 with almost all commercial and industrial consumption coming to a halt.
