Power consumption grew 6.1% in December 2020
India’s power consumption grew 6.1% to 107.3 Billion Units (BU) in December, compared to 101.08 BU in December 2019.
This is the fourth consecutive month where year on year growth in consumption has been indicating a return to normal post COVID lockdowns. Power demand growth is likely to be more stable in the coming months.
Central Transmission Utility incorporated
A new Central power transmission utility was created, with the business being separated from Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL).
With this, the electricity transmission system planning business will separate from PGCIL and allow PGCIL to diversify to other businesses.
