India’s power consumption rises 18.6% to 129.51 BU in August

India’s power consumption grew 18.6% year-on-year to 129.51 billion units (BU) in August and remained higher than pre-COVID levels with increased economic activity on account of the easing of restrictions across the states, according to data released by the Ministry of Power.

Consumption will likely grow further with only the possibility of a third wave of COVID and the restrictions that will follow likely to dampen consumption again.


All time high monthly volume of 9538 MU clocked on IEX

The Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) announced that a new record monthly volume of 9538 million units (MU) of power was traded on the exchange in the month of August, a 74% year-on-year increase.

Rs 3.56/unit was the average solar price and Rs 4.85/unit was the average in non-solar segments with the overall average being Rs 4.21/unit.
