India’s energy demand grew 11.5% in October

India’s energy demand grew 11.5% year-on-year to 109.6 billion units (BU) in October, marking the second consecutive month of increased demand. The demand had declined year-on-year from March to August 2020. This according to the research firm India Ratings (IndRa).

The firm noted in its monthly report that further easing of lockdown restrictions for economic activity was the primary factory in energy demand gaining momentum.

Power consumption growth slows to 4.7% in November

India’s power consumption growth rate slowed to 4.7% at 98.37 billion units (BU) in November 2020. This compared to the growth rate in September being 4.4% and October 12%. The decline in growth rate can be attributed to the onset of winter, particularly in the northern parts of the country.

The growth rate is expected to rise steadily in the coming months with economic activity reaching pre-COVID levels.
