DISCOMs’ outstanding due to power GENCOs rise 29% to Rs 1.38 lakh crore

DISCOMs’ total dues to to power generation companies rose to Rs 1.38 lakh crore in October 2020. This is a 29% year-on-year increase compared to the Rs 1.06 lakh crore DISCOMs owed in October 2019, according to the PRAAPTI portal.

Meanwhile the total overdue amount, which is the amount not cleared after 45 days grace period, increased to Rs 1.25 lakh crore, up from Rs 0.93 lakh crore in the year ago period.


Spot power trade grew 61% in November: IEX

Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) recorded a trading volume of 6,164 Million Units (MU) in November 2020, a 61% year-on-year growth. Meanwhile, the average market price declined by 4% Rs 2.73 from Rs 2.85 during the same month last year.

“The significant growth in the electricity trade volume at IEX despite a moderate increase in consumption and peak demand is a clear reflection that the distribution utilities, as well as the open-access consumers, have a greater preference for competitive and efficient power procurement through the exchange market,” IEX said.
