Power consumption up 13.38% in October

The country’s power consumption grew 13.38% to 110.94 billion units (BU) in October this year, as compared to 97.84 BU in October 2019. This growth was primarily driven by industrial and commercial activities, as per government data.

This YOY growth figure gives sufficient indication that commercial and industrial activities have resumed fully following the easing of lockdown measures.


Northeastern region faces a peak power shortage of 4.1%

The Northeastern region of India is facing a cumulative peak power shortage of 4.1% with Assam and Manipur facing shortages of 3.5% and 5.2% respectively. This, according to the CEA (Central Electricity Authority) 2018-19 Load Generation Balance Report. This shortage is primarily due to underutilisation of renewable sources.
